Abstract

Bicoronal or hemicoronal flaps have been used in oral & maxillofacial surgery to gain access to the upper & middle thirds of the facial skeleton.
We reviewed 16 patients who received surgical treatments through the coronal flaps from 1993. 8 to 1994. 9 in our department, and considered the morbidith of the procedure.
@ES The results were :
@EN 1. The complications were transient sensory(25%) and motor(25%) deficits, hematoma (6.3%) and infection (6.3%), and they are resolved in various times.
2. With a adequate knowledge of surgical anatomy, a coronal approach will provide an exposure that facilitates accurate reduction and fixation of fractures and will allow a superior cosmetic results with minimal or no complications.
Some usggestions for further reduction in the occurrence of complications have been made.
